The Worst Orchestra In Omaha

Comprised of people with a love of music, but a lack of talent. Just kidding!

• Our current members range from intermediate to advanced and we actually sound quite lovely as a group.

Join the fun! We are always accepting new musicians. (violin, viola, cello)

• No auditions. Our only requirements are that you can read music and you are at least 18 years old.

• We are a casual, friendly, grassroots, Omaha community string orchestra for people who simply enjoy playing music in a group.

• This is a judgement-free safe space for musical mediocrity.

Hello Omaha violinists, violists and cellists:

  • Did you play violin, viola or cello in high school or college and have been wanting to dust off your instrument and play in a group?
  • Are you an adult who is learning how to play violin, viola or cello? (we have a new beginners-only group starting in June of 2026)
  • Rosin up that bow and let’s become friends!

  • FAQ

    Where do you practice?

In a variety of indoor settings, generally around the Aksarben/Elmwood/Memorial Park area. We’ll occasionally meet outdoors in the shade at Elmwood Park as long as the weather is nice and dry. (our bows don’t like muggy weather)

    How often do you practice?

Our intermediate level group practices once or twice a week.
Our new beginning level group will meet once or twice each month starting in June of 2026.

What if I can’t attend every practice?

No problem. We don’t have attendance requirements. Just join in when it’s convenient for your schedule.

What kind of music do you play?

We play lots of classical music from composers like Vivaldi, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Schubert, etc as well as a few pop songs, The Beatles, movie themes, waltzes, marches, polkas, everything.

    Are you really the worst?

Do any of us qualify to audition for The Omaha Symphony? No.
Is our group talented enough to be hired at fancy wedding ceremonies? Nope.
(although a few of our members are definitely talented enough to be hired as soloists!)
Despite our silly name, we really do produce a beautiful sound when we join forces and play music together.

I play the flute. Can I join?

This is a string ensemble. However, we know of a fantastic Omaha band/orchestra ensemble that will gladly accept wind and brass musicians!
Visit The Prairie Rose Ensemble here: https://proseband.wordpress.com/

I’m a beginner. Can I join your group?

As long as you can read beginning-level music, yes !
We typically play intermediate-level music, but starting in June of 2026, we are adding a separate rehearsal one or two days each month just for beginning adult violinists, violists and cellists! Contact me for more info.

I’m interested in having your ensemble play at my Omaha event. Are you for hire?

We are a volunteer orchestra, but yes, we do perform at events throughout Omaha.
We require a performance space of at least 15′ X 15′.
Reach out if you are would like “The Worsties” to provide musical ambiance at your Omaha event.

Who do I contact if I have further questions or want to join?

In reality they only pass each other by.” - Franz Peter Schubert
