Info about our group:
• Our current 10-member ensemble is a mix of intermediate and advanced musicians with a range of experience from 3 to 25 years. When we combine our skills and play as a group, we actually sound really nice.
• Join the fun! We are currently accepting new musicians. Reach out if you play the violin, viola or cello.
• No auditions.
The only requirements are that you can read intermediate-level music and you are at least 18 years old.
• We are a casual, friendly, pressure-free, grassroots, Omaha community string orchestra /ensemble for adults who simply enjoy playing music in a group. We don’t take ourselves seriously. When we hit a wrong note or mess up our counting, we laugh about it and move on. If you played violin, viola or cello in high school or college we’d love for you to join us.

• Where do you practice?
Indoor practice spaces in the Aksarben/Elmwood Park area.
These spaces provide chairs.• How often do you practice?
Once a week. Sometimes twice a week if we have an upcoming performance.
• What if I can’t attend every practice?
No problem. We don’t have attendance requirements. Just join in when it’s convenient for your schedule.
• What kind of music do you play?
We play lots of classical music from composers like Vivaldi, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach & Schubert as well as Beatles songs, movie themes, waltzes, marches, polkas, everything.
• Are you really the worst?
Do any of us qualify to audition for The Omaha Symphony? No.
Is our group talented enough to be hired at fancy wedding ceremonies? Not quite.
(although a few of our members are definitely talented enough to be hired as soloists!)
Despite our silly name, we really do produce a nice sound when we join forces and play music together.• I play the trumpet. Can I join?
This is a string ensemble. We only accept violinists, violists and cellists because our sheet music is composed for string quartets.
• I’m a beginner. Can I join your group?
If you. are an absolute beginner who is just getting started, we recommend waiting until you are comfortable with intermediate level music.
• I’m interested in having your ensemble play at my Omaha event. Are you for hire?•We are a volunteer orchestra, and yes, we do occasionally perform in hotel lobbies, coffee shops, senior centers as well as a few private events throughout Omaha.
•To accommodate the entire group and our music stands, we require a performance space of at least 20′ X 20′.
• If you would like us to play background music at a private event, we kindly ask for a donation to our sheet music fund.
